What is Inscription
Due to Ordinals, not only does each sat have a unique ordinal number, but the Segregated Witness (SegWit) and Taproot upgrades to the Bitcoin network have made it possible to write data to sats.
SegWit, short for Segregated Witness, is an upgrade applied to the Bitcoin Core client in 2017.
The Taproot upgrade advances the script language used in the Bitcoin network to Tapscript. As a result, more extensive transactions become feasible on the Bitcoin network, and Ordinals Theory utilizes it to record various files through witness data on sats.
Each sat has a unique identifier and stores data, functioning similarly to an NFT. However, unlike most NFTs in the Ethereum ecosystem, the inscription process records all data on the Bitcoin chain, potentially making it a more authentic form of NFT. Users can leverage the Ordinals protocol to inscribe data on sats, and sats containing data can be exchanged through transactions, just like regular bitcoins.
